Desreen is a Hackney based artist and loves living in one of the most inspiring and creative areas of London. She has spent many years using the streets of Hackney as a backdrop for fashion photoshoots, especially after dusk, as she aims to capture the drama and essence the night brings. Alongside photography and dark room skills, she studied graphic design, lithography screen printing, and sound engineering. She even appeared on TV on 'Stars in Their Eyes' as singer Mary J Blige, auditioned for 'X-Factor', and 'MTV’s New Presenter' where she got down from 2000 to the last 50 contestants.
Over the years, she has woven a tapestry of creative pursuits and is always seeking the thrill of the next challenge.
Recently, she has been exploring her artistic talents by drawing vibrant and colourful portraits, sometimes even pushing the boundaries into the otherworldly, such as with her 'Comic Crew' series. Being an empath and intuitive person, she has always been drawn to the intrinsic storytelling of faces. Her process usually starts with the eyes to capture the emotion and essence of the character, then the rest of the work flowers from there. Once a piece is complete, it’s not uncommon for her to take finished artwork and duplicate it to further explore its creative potential with different colours and textures. She works fast and sometimes discards shortly afterwards, as she believes that it’s not always about keeping the piece but more about the creative release — this on its own is rewarding for her.
